FACILITATOR QUESTIONS :

FOLLOW-UP FROM LAST WEEK:
How was your time fasting and praying as a group? What went well? What challenges did you face?

Begin group time with 2 minutes of silent prayer. Assume a comfortable position and repeat the phrase “Come Holy Spirit” to yourself as you breathe. If your mind wanders, that's okay—simply notice it, repeat the phrase, and return your focus. After the silence, invite someone from the group to close in prayer.

SCRIPTURE READING

This week, the goal of group is to engage with the passage from Sunday’s message through a form of study called “Discovery Bible Study”. This is a model of Bible study that is intended to be beneficial in an individual or group setting, regardless of your experience with the Bible. It is also a great tool to engage with and to walk through Scripture with others. As a group, follow this style of studying the Scripture:

Read John 3:1-18 (NIV) aloud.
Sit in silence for 2 minutes as a group.

After this, have someone else read the passage again in a different translation. Then, invite another person to paraphrase the passage in their own words.

Spend focused time discussing each of the following prompts: Q1 – What does this passage say about God?

Q2 – What does this passage say about man?
Q3 – What does this passage say about obedience? Q4 – What will I do now?

CHALLENGE:

This week use the same four questions from above to guide your personal reading of the following passages:

  • -  Hebrews 9:11-28
  • -  Luke 4:1-13
  • -  Romans 8:1-17
  • REACH CHALLENGE:
  • Take it a step further by inviting someone else to read these passages with you and explore the questions together.
  • RESOURCES:
  • The King Jesus Gospel by Scot McKnight
The Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer
