FOLLOW-UP FROM LAST WEEK: How did your time in solitude go? What, if anything, did the Lord reveal to you?
Begin group time with 2 minutes of silent prayer. Assume a comfortable position and repeat the phrase “Come Holy Spirit” to yourself as you breathe. If your mind wanders, that's okay—simply notice it, repeat the phrase, and return your focus. After the silence, invite someone from the group to close in prayer.
Icebreaker: Have you ever gotten something you thought you wanted so badly, and you came away disappointed or at least unfulfilled? Share examples.
READ OUT LOUD AS A GROUP: 1 Chronicles 17:1-17, 25 and 29:1-6
Q1 – What misconceptions may we be holding about God’s will for our lives? Put another way: Based on these Scriptures, what order do you think God would place these few things in your life:
Q2 – What does it look like to fully immerse yourself in the story of God? What has this series and the King Jesus Gospel clarified about the story you are living in? What response does that require, based on the Scriptures?
Q3 – King David filled his hands by taking hold of God’s hand, trusting God’s will over his own desires.
● What has God placed in your hands right now, and how can you, like David, use it for His Kingdom?
DISCUSS: “Consecration requires: Your heart to be fully abandoned to God and your hope to be fully detached from the outcomes in life.”
● What is the thing preventing your heart from being “fully abandoned” to God? What worldly outcomes most heavily dictate the state of your soul?
READ OUT LOUD AS A GROUP: Psalm 84:11; 1 Peter 2:4-5; Colossians 3:12-17
Q4 – Staying faithful often requires obedience in the present moment. Where in your life do you feel the pull to “run” to the next opportunity, and how might God be asking you to remain faithful where you are?
DISCUSS: “Who am I?”
● How as believers can we constantly stay in this heart posture? Why
is it important?
Q6 – Outwardly, Solomon was far from the “best” next option for king, yet that is who God chose. God similarly wants to use some of the parts of us that we would most desire to forget. Bring to light some areas of your life that you see yourself as ill-equipped or not enough and pair it with truth, speaking identity over each other. Our God is strong in our weakness!
