FOLLOW-UP FROM LAST WEEK: How did your time in solitude go? What, if anything, did the Lord reveal to you?
Begin group time with 2 minutes of silent prayer. Assume a comfortable position and repeat the phrase “Come Holy Spirit” to yourself as you breathe. If your mind wanders, that's okay—simply notice it, repeat the phrase, and return your focus. After the silence, invite someone from the group to close in prayer.
READ OUT LOUD AS A GROUP: Romans 1:1-7
Q1 – The gospel did not just start when Jesus arrived on earth, but is the story God has been writing from the beginning of time. Why is it important to see the gospel as a story? How does this impact our response to what saying yes to Jesus entails?
Q2 – Sometimes you are looking for a fresh revelation when God just wants to rest and participate in what you already know is true. You are LOVED, CALLED, and SENT. Which aspect of those truths have you forgotten or ignored, or never been told, and now you need to lean more into?
Q3 – How have you been tempted to disconnect the Gospel from the Old Testament? Has that ever been taught to you? Do you have any hesitations or confusion around the Old Testament? How has this series
challenged that? What could God be inviting you into in regards to studying his word in light of King Jesus?
Q4 – How did this message challenge your view of evangelism and mission towards nonbelievers? How do we provoke a “holy envy” amongst nonbelievers? What aspects of your life, how you live and speak, that look different than the world around you?
Q5 – How are you tempted to believe that Jesus’ substitution for you on the cross means the death of your individuality? What does it mean for Jesus to redeem your individuality? How is God’s love infinite and personal?
Q6 – You are loved by God, called to be holy, and sent on mission. Did you, your church, or your family of origin tend to emphasize one of these pillars over the others? How do you hold all of these together? How does that expand your view of God’s story and your life?
Q7 – What is your specific role in getting the gospel to the nations? You have one. What is it? Pray towards that end.
CHALLENGE:
Spend time this week reflecting on your unique story. Write out what you think God is calling you to, both globally and locally.
- If you have any questions related to exploring you role in reaching the nations (going, sending, mobilizing, and reaching international communities here in your city), email global@auburncommunitychurch.com
